Schori Presented Alberta Sport Recognition Award by Alberta Sport Connection
April 28, 2017…Banff, AB- Lethbridge Amateur Swim Club (LASC) and University of Lethbridge head coach Peter Schori has been awarded an Alberta Sport Recognition Award by Alberta Sport Connection for 2017. Peter was named a recipient of the Coaching Recognition Award, that recognizes coaches for their outstanding achievements in developing Alberta’s amateur athletes. The Alberta Sport Recognition Awards are presented annually to coach developers, coaches, officials and volunteers across Alberta.
Peter has been an active coach in Alberta for over 20 years. In addition to coaching, he contributes to the sport of swimming through his role on the Alberta Coaches Council of Swim Alberta, serving as a member and past chairperson and also on the High Performance Advisory Committee of Swim Alberta.
This past year saw two of Peter’s swimmers nominated to and represent Canada at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games (Rachel Nicol) and 2016 Rio Paralympic Games (Zack McAllister). This is quite a feat from a club with only 100 registered competitive swimmers. Peter was appointed to the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) 2016 in Windsor, Ontario as a coach. This appointment was a result of being coach of record for Olympic and World Swimming Athlete Rachel Nicol.
Peter was recognized by Swim Alberta at the Swim Alberta Awards Banquet in 2016 for his coaching achievements, receiving the International Coach of the Year for a Female Swimmer, Coach of the Year for Male Para Swimmer, Outlying Coach of the Year Award and was also nominated by his coaching peers to receive the Desperado Award that recognizes the best overall coach of the year in addition to contributing to the provincial program.
