January 29, 2019, Edmonton – Swim Alberta is excited to announce the 400m freestyle challenge. Swimmers will have the opportunity to have their best training 400 freestyle submitted to earn training scholarships or individual recognition awards.
When Dr. Stephen Norris, the Performance Technical Director of Swim Alberta, was reviewing the current abilities of Alberta’s swimmers he identified the need for swimmers to have training focused on improving their max VO2. “The challenge is a great opportunity for swimmers to train and race during practice while improving their mid-distance abilities.” said Norris.
Swimmers that are currently carded or identified as a NexGen athlete by Swimming Canada are not eligible. Prizing includes training scholarships and recognition awards which will be presented at Swim Alberta’s Summer Championships. Two $1,000 and two $500 training scholarships will be awarded while recognition awards will be presented to single age winners. Coaches can record and submit times from the 400m freestyle during any practice up to May 31.
