Swimmers can represent the Zone of their residence or primary training facility. For example, a swimmer who lives in Airdrie but trains in Calgary could represent either Zone 2 or 3. A swimmer who lives in St. Albert but trains in Edmonton could represent either Zone 5 or 6. Refer to the Alberta Summer Games website if you require help to identify your Zone.

No, swimmers are selected based on their rankings based on the selection period as outlined in the Selection Criteria.  All swimmers who declare their intent for the games, will be ranked based on their performances achieved within the selection period.

The introduction of a heats and finals format adds excitement, creates additional racing opportunities, and provides a true Games-style experience while maintaining a participation focus.

The age groups were updated to strengthen participation, support relay racing across all Zones, and enhance the overall Games experience. Fewer age categories with more swimmers per group creates a more energetic, team-focused environment.

While the Alberta Summer Games no longer offers a full slate of individual events, events 200m and longer are now provided at the Summer Provincial Championships the following weekend, which is the province’s primary summer performance competition.

Performance-focused opportunities exist through the Summer Provincial Championships, Summer Provincial Trials, and other provincially sanctioned competitions aligned with the national calendar.

Swim Alberta regularly reviews its competition structure and calendar. Any future adjustments will be guided by participation trends, national alignment, and feedback from clubs, zones, and families.
