Teacher Training

This course serves as the foundation of the I Can Swim (ICS) program, preparing new instructors with the skills needed to deliver high-quality swimming instruction. With 12 hours of theory-based training, participants gain hands-on experience in lesson planning, safe sport practices, and effective teaching methods, while building a strong understanding of core aquatic skills.

The Teacher Training Course is delivered in two formats: in-person or online. The in-person course is delivered through a blend of classroom-based activities and in-pool learning. For online delivery, break out rooms are used for activities and the in-pool session is delivered through a series of instructional videos, providing clear demonstrations of techniques to ensure instructors are confident and capable in guiding swimmers of all levels.

The Teacher Training assessment consists of a minimum of 5 hours of practical training followed by a final evaluation. During the final evaluation, participants are observed by an I Can Swim Evaluator and assessed against established standards to confirm they can demonstrate the required knowledge and practical competencies.

An additional fee applies for the final evaluation. This can be scheduled after the practical teaching hours have been completed.
