Para Prospects West is coming to Alberta

This year the city of Edmonton will be hosting the 2020 Para Prospects West Camp at the University of Alberta from February 5-8, 2020.
Twenty para athletes including 8 from Alberta, 9 from B.C. and 3 from Manitoba, along with twelve coaches – 6 from Alberta, 3 from B.C., 2 from Manitoba and 1 from Saskatchewan will be participating.

Swim Alberta, Swim BC, Swim Saskatchewan, and Swim Manitoba have partnered together to provide an educational and training development opportunity to para-swimmers from across the four Western Canadian provinces. The camp objectives are to expose swimmers to team travel and protocols, challenging work schedules and workout time, learning pre-race activation, warm-up routines and technical reliability under training conditions.

The four day camp will be led by Swimming Canada’s National Para Head Coach, Vince Mikuska. Joining him are a number of speakers:
– Lockie Lister, Swim Alberta Para Official
– Erin Brennen, Mental Skills Coach
– Tessa Gallinger, Strength & Conditioning Coach with the Canadian Sport Institute in Calgary
– Tammy Cunnington, 2016 Paralympian & 2018 Pan Pacific Para Gold Medalist
– Michel Bérubé, Nextgen & pathways Coach Paralympic

Following the camp all athletes will be participating in the Para-Swimming Invitational hosted by the Steadward Bears Para Swimming Club. This will be the first club run specialized Para-Swimming meet in Alberta. The competition will be inclusive to athletes at any stage of athletic development.
