INFORMATION FOR ASSA OFFICIALS

The information below is assist summer swimming officials.

 

ASSA Code of Conduct and Ethics

As an official within the ASSA you are bound by the ASSA Code of Conduct and Ethics, please read and abide by them whenever you are participating in an ASSA event.

 

Club Officials’ Administrator – Roles and Responsibilities

Each club has to have a Club Official's Administrator.  This person will be solely responsible for:

  1. Ensuring all club officials are registered on the Officials data base.
  2. Ensuring all club officials' personal information is up to date on the data base
  3. Ensuring only active officials are listed in the officials’ database
  4. Organizing officials’ clinics for team parent/volunteers
  5. Gathering officials for club swim meet
  6. Following up with meet manager to ensure official sign-up sheet information is updated for their own club and the rest is updated in the Official database after the meets/clinics
  7. Remind all officials that they will be required to help out at out of town meets
  8. The dress for officials at Alberta swim meets is white tops and black bottoms
  9. Completing the waiver form

The Club Official's Administrator person will have the following resources:

  1. The ASSA Officials Chairperson
  2. The ASSA Region Representative for your Region
  3. The Officials data base - become familiar with it

Referee Briefing Guidelines

The Alberta Officials Committee has developed Referee Briefing Guidelines to be shared with all officials to ensure consistency throughout the province.  You can obtain a copy here.

 

 

Officials Clinics

Upcoming Officials Courses can be found on the Swim Alberta website here. 

If you are holding an Officials Clinic in your area, please complete this online form, the clinic will be posted on the clinic page. All clinics need to be registered and approved by Swim Alberta. You can view the Clinic Reporting Guide here. Any questions regarding clinic registration can be directed to megan@swimalberta.ca.

 

 

Officials Certification Process

Swim Alberta has adopted the certification system that has been approved by Swimming Canada in September 2017.  The link to the certification pathway can be viewed here.
All officials are to keep a signature card (Found under Officials - Recourses on the Swim Alberta webpage)and provide it to your Club Officials Administrator to update your records. It is up to the individual official to update their own deck log. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your officials status or pathway please contact Megan Narsing at Swim Alberta megan@swimalberta.ca.
