Welcome Shawn Holman, Swim Alberta Executive Director

Val CarrNews, Swim Alberta News

Dear Swim Alberta Community,

I’m pleased to announce Shawn Holman will be joining Swim Alberta as our Executive Director (ED) starting today. Shawn brings a strong combination of sports leadership and business expertise to the role.

With over 20 years of experience in sport, from grass roots to high performance, Shawn is an accomplished leader in the design and delivery of athlete pathways to grow membership and support athletes to reach their full potential. His business lens and entrepreneurial spirit come from having successfully built and managed a thriving speed skating equipment business for over 12 years. He has a proven track record in business operations, strategic planning, financial management, business development, marketing, and public relations.

Prior to joining Swim Alberta, Shawn held positions at Speed Skating Canada, namely the Chief Sport Officer (CSO) and the Associate Director at the University of Calgary Olympic Oval. He led large teams in developing high performance programs and teams that would sustain excellence on an international stage. During his successful tenure with these organizations, he developed quadrennial strategic plans for high performance and NextGen athletes, resulting in the highest World Championship medal haul for long track speed skating since 2008.

As the CSO of Speed Skating Canada, Shawn leveraged his LTAD work with Speed Skating and the Canadian Sliding Sports to spearhead the review and alignment of Speed Skating Canada’s sport assets/resources (LTAD, Gold Medal Profile, Podium Pathway) from grassroots to podium. The results were a sustainable plan for continued growth of resources and alignment for the organization.

Being a key member of the Swim Alberta Team, I would like to thank Kevin Dennis for assuming additional accountabilities as we searched for a new ED. Kevin is looking forward to supporting and transitioning Shawn into the ED role.

Please join me in welcoming Shawn to the Swim Alberta team as we continue to focus on delivering our multi-year strategic plan to achieve our vision of “every swimmer having the opportunity to reach their full potential”.

Cheers,

Dean Schultz

President, Swim Alberta
