Alberta Competition Information

During the spring of 2020 the Competition Calendar Working Group (CCWG) reviewed the Swim Alberta calendar as well as the various types of competitions held within Alberta. The results of the review were the establishment of a stable competition calendar that addresses the needs of swimmers from grassroot through to Performance Development with alignment to the Swimming Canada national competition calendar.  As a result, there are updates to competition sanctioning, a provincial series of competitions, fixed dates for Provincial Competitions as well as calendar templates for coaches to use when developing their clubs and/or groups season plans.

  • Competition Profiles:  This document is a resource for coaches outlining the types of competitions at each level of swimmer development.
  • Competition Focus Per Level: The competition focus per level is intended to provide guidance for Meet Managers, Officials Chairs and Officials to support swimmer development through each level of competition.
  • Dates and Competition Windows (Dec 2021) :  An overall view of when competition types should be held and includes the planned dates for the Provincial Series, Provincial Competitions as well as the dates for National level events.
  • Club Sample Calendar (Dec 2021):  An example of how a club may choose to program their season based on the main themes of competition planning as outlined by the CCWG.

In addition to the updated competition information, a document titled Competition Types, Deadlines and Requirements has been published on the Swim Alberta Meet Manager Information Page.

Thank you to the members of the Competition Calendar Working Group for their time, effort, contributions and feedback throughout the process of the Calendar Review.
